Cycle of fifths
The cycle, or circle, of fifths is a geometric representation of the 12 notes of the chromatic scale ordered by ascending fifths, clockwise, and descending fifths (or ascending fourths), counter clockwise. This geometric representation shows us the tight relationship maintained between tones and keys, and allows us to receive, in graphic form, much information on musical theory which will be of great usefulness as a tool for understanding harmony, musical composition, arrangements, etc.El Ciclo de quintas

SCALE ALTERATIONS AND KEY SIGNATURE
“Sharp” symbols (#): beginning from the note F, clockwise, we shall encounter the order in which the “sharp” symbols are written on the key signature of different scales: F – C – G – D – A – E – B.
“Flat” symbols (b): starting from the note Bb, counter clockwise, we shall find the order in which the “flat” symbols are written on the key signature of different scales, which is reverse to the previous: Bb – Eb – Ab – Db – Gb – Cb (B) – Fb (E).
Alterations of each scale: beginning from note C, in both directions, we shall find alterations belonging to each key of the major scale. Towards the right are the #’s and towards the left the b‘s. In the center is C, carrying no alterations, G follows with a “sharp” symbol, D is next with 2 “sharp” symbols, etc. In the opposite direction, F will carry one “flat” symbol, and Bb will be next with two b, etc.
